History of Pihecod

Pihecod was founded in August 2004 by Pastor Bota who was born and brought up by one parent in Gladstone Village, Muloza, Mulanje district. As a result of his diverse experiences with community work and passion to develop and educate the community he came to realize that community development and individual empowerment had to be based on a combination of social, spiritual and academic and physical as efforts in holistic education and thus he decided to establish People’s Institute for Holistic education.

Pastor Bota and his team realized the need for the establishment of education center for the benefit of the community. On 3rd January 2005 both primary (classes 1-8) and High school (classes form 1-2) known as People’s Institute for Holistic education was opened where the students from eleven Villages were enrolled. The primary school was free so as to allow some students who could not afford to join to have access to education. Both fees for high primary and high school were subsidized so that the students were required to pay only 50% of the full amount . However the students who accomplish their primary school with good grades but do not have fee to join high school are awarded full scholarship to go to high school.
By looking the support and the challenges of the surrounding communities, the Institution embarked on community development and skill empowerment programs. The aim was to educate and strengthen the community capacity in order to participate in community development activities. On 10th August 2005 the word “Community development” was added and became People’s Institute for Holistic education and community development (Pihecod)

Abstract

Africa is known as a poor continent compares to other continets like, Asia, North and SouthAmerica, Europe. The research shows that a lot of  non -profit oriented organisations that are engaged in development programs have been opened since  most countries in africa received their independents. However, despite the availability of such  organisations still africa appear on the map as a poor and developing continent. There are several reasons that have attributed to this crippledness. Perpertual dependant on  foreing aid is one of the major reasons. Africa is hungry for action leaders.  There are few non governmental organisation that are both involved in educating human beings and development programs. Unless human is educted, he can not  maintain the suistanability of  the development.
In Malawi for instance the project of boreholes in remote areas failed to be maintained its suistanability because most of the villagers were lacking the knowledge of maintenance and among others.  In the year 2002 a non profit organisation by the name People’ Institute for Holistic Education and community development was born. This is the project that has stood since its birth providing both holistic education and suistabable development  especially southren part of Malawi..
